‘UP member Kalam killed by police’

Update : 19 May 2014, 09:10 PM

Hasina Begum, the wife of assassinated Alangi UP member Abul Kalam Azad, claimed at a press conference yesterday that her husband killed by police after they had abducted him.

The press conference was held at the Jessore Press Club.

Hasina said Sub-Inspector Mizan of Kotchandpur police station abducted her husband and carried him away from their residence with the help of local Awami League leaders, in a blue private car bearing the license plate “Dhaka Metro- Ka-03-2339.”

“Being informed, locals went to the police station in search of my husband. But Officer-In-Charge Fazlur Rahman refused to listen to them,” she added.

Hasina said the locals later rushed to Gurpara police camp on information that her husband was kept there. The police used batons to disperse the mob.

“Meanwhile, a white microbus bearing the plate number ‘Dhaka Metro- Ga- 2231,’ took my husband away to an unknown place, in presence of the mob,” she said.

“Later, my husband’s body was recovered from a field in Mamunshia under the Jhenidah sadar upazila, three days later. At that time, the police claimed that my husband was killed by unknown miscreants,” she added.

“Having confirmed the information, I went to the police to lodge a case. But the police did not take it,” she said.

Hasina lodged a petition case on April 28, accusing eight people including OC Fazlur Rahman, SI Mizan and ASI Shibupada Dutta with the Jhenidah Judicial Magistrate’s Court.

A senior judicial magistrate then ordered the Kotchandpur station OC to take the case as an FIR within seven working days.

OC Fazlur Rahman submitted an investigation report to the court on May 6, terming the complaint false.
