Update : 19 May 2014, 08:17 PM

Armed miscreants had looted Tk7 lakh from a businessman after shooting him in the capital’s Khilgaon area under Shahjahanpur police station yesterday.

The bullet hit businessman was identified as Zahir Ahmmed, 32, who was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Sources at the DMCH said the victim had sustained three bullet injuries – one in his left chest, one left leg and one in left hand.

The injured businessman told the Dhaka Tribune that three armed miscreants, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted him on the Shahjahanpur Bazar road near the Khilgaon Flyover. He was on his way home at Basabo under Sabujbagh police station by a rickshaw around 7pm, he added.

He also said: “The criminals fired several gun shots at me as I tried to resist the criminals. At one stage, they snatched away the bag containing the money and fled away.

“I earlier had withdrawn the money from a bank at Motijheel in the afternoon and I was on my way home after taking a break at my office at Purana Paltan.”

Family members of Zahir said he owns “MS Al-Sumit Trading” located on the 1st floor of the Baitul View Tower in Purana Paltan.

Inspector Mozammel Huq of the DMCH police outpost said they had informed the police at Shahjahanpur police station regarding the incident.
