A 20-year-old woman was slaughtered allegedly by her friend in a residential hotel room at Reazuddin Bazar in Chittagong city early yesterday.

Police nabbed the alleged killer, Zakir Hossain, 20, from the same room around 4:30am, said police sources.

The body of Josna Begum was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for post-mortem, they added.

Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf, assistant commissioner of Kotwali circle in Chittagong Metropolitan Police, told the Dhaka Tribune that Zakir slaughtered Josna and slashed her body.

Hearing the screams, the hotel authorities rushed to room and, discovering the blood, notified the Kotwali police around 4am.  Later, police went to the scene and found Josna’s body and Zakir in the room, with a bloody knife in his possession, Rouf said. Zakir was taken to Kotwali police station, he added.

According to police, Zakir and Josna had rented the hotel room around 3:30am posing as a couple, which they were not, said the assistant commissioner.

The murder might be the result of a lovers’ feud, he said.

A murder case was filed with Kotwali police station in this regard.
