The relatives of a teenage boy, who died after being admitted at Hizla upazila health complex, have assaulted the on-duty doctor for his alleged negligence.
According to family members, Isharul Shikdar Druba, 13, son of Dulal Shikdar from Guabaria, was brought to the health complex with high fever at 9:15 am.
After admitting Druba, the on-duty doctor asked the relatives to bring medicines for the boy. When they returned with the medicines, they found the boy dead, said family members.
They alleged that Druba has died due to the negligence of the doctor as he asked to bring medicine first without giving proper importance.
Denying the allegations, Dr Shuvangkar Baroi, upazila health and family planning officer, said: “The condition of the patient deteriorated within few minutes of admission and he expired before starting any treatment.
The boy died due to high body temperature,” he added.
Shawkat Anwar, Hizla police station officer-in-charge, said: “Following the death, the relatives of the boy assaulted the on-duty doctor.
Later, we detained Yunus Shikdar, elder brother and Alamin Mridha, cousin of the patient, as Dr Shuvangkar filed a case against them,” he added.
The body of the boy has been handed over to family members after lodging a general diary, the police said.
Additional police have been deployed at the health complex after the incident.
