The Customs Department officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have seized 101 gold bars weighting around 12kg on Saturday morning.
The gold bars were seized from three passengers of a flight from Dubai. Later, the Customs officials arrested the three passengers.
Israt Jahan, an assistant commissioner of the Customs Department, said they seized the gold by searching the bodies of three passengers of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines immediate after its arrival at Dhaka at around 10am from Dubai via Sylhet.
The detainees were identified as Joynal Abedin, 32, Sabuj, 30, and Roman, 22.
“The Customs officials searched the bodies of those detained persons for their suspicious movement and attitude while they had been crossing the Green Channel and the 101 gold bars were found in their possessions,” said the Customs official.
He said the gold bars were found hiding inside their shoes, belts and different other places.
According to the Customs Department officials, those detained persons boarded on the flight from Sylhet after the flight had come from Dubai.
