Police arrested nine members of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in Bakerganj municipal area in Barisal yesterday.
The arrested men are: Nuruzzaman, municipal secretary, and Abul Bashar, Nesaruddin, Shamim Ahmed, Hafez Md Shahidullah, Jahangir Hossain, Mozammel Huq, Abul Kalam and Abu Hanif, leaders and activists of the party in Bakerganj.
Inspector Masum Talukdar, OC of Bakerganj police station, said the Jamaat activists were arrested while they were in a meeting to “conspire and plan a sabotage” at Hanif’s house at Runsi area in Bakerganj.
Books and items used to spread propaganda were also recovered from the scene.
The detained men will be sent to court in several cases of political violence, according to the police.
