N'ganj teens rescued, 2 abductors held

Two teenagers from Narayanganj who were kidnapped during a holiday trip have been rescued alive from a cottage in Cox's Bazar after nearly two weeks of abduction.

Abducted Imran, 19, son of Iman Ali, and Doulat Hossain, 18, son of Mohammad Shafe Uddin, from Araihazar upazila, Narayanganj, were rescued on Thursday.

Two people, Sekandar Abu Zafar Hiru, son of Coastal Multipurpose Cooperative Society chief Harunur Rashid, and Kayes-ud-Zaman, nephew of the cottage owner, were held over the abduction.

The two youths, who arrived in Cox's Bazar for a holiday trip, were abducted on April 26, Cox's Bazar Sadar police station Sub Inspector Saiful Islam said.

“They were kept hostage at a hotel in Cox's Bazar town and was placed for Tk4 lakh ransom,” he added. “They were rescued today (Thursday). A case has been filed in this regard.”

The abductors and the victims were set to be placed in court until last reported in the evening.

Victim Imran's brother Moktar said the abductors demanded Tk4 lakh ransom for his brother and the friend. “I informed Cox's Bazar police. They have rescued my brother.”

The incident took place amidst a spree of abductions and killings throughout the country.
