Myanmar national held with 60 grams of gold

Police have detained a Myanmar national with six gold bars weighing about 60 grams at a police checkpoint near Shah Amanat Bridge early Tuesday.

The detainee has been identified as Mohammad Salam.

Assistant Commissioner of Kotwali police station of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf confirmed about the gold recovery to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “Police officials of Bakalia police station challenged him sensing his suspicious behaviour while crossing the checkpoint around 3:30am.”

“They recovered six gold bars from the soles of his sleepers. Three gold bars were stuffed in his each sleepers,” he said.

The estimated price of the gold bars is Tk30 lakh, he added.

Later, the detainee was taken to Bakalia police station along with the gold bars.
