7 arms traders held in capital

The anti-kidnapping squad of the police has arrested seven arms dealers including a woman with firearms, ammunition and explosives in the capital from Jatrabari and Farmgate areas.

Mohammad Kabil, 22, Jinnur Rahman alias Jillur, 23, and Rakibul Hassan alias Roky, 24, were held with three foreign pistols and 15 rounds of bullets from Tejgaon around 1:45am on Tuesday.

In a separate raid, Nizam Uddin, 50, Saddam Hossain, 24, Shariful Islam, 26, and associate Khaleda Begum, 20, were held with two foreign pistols, 13 bullets and 6.2kg of explosives from Jatrabari.

Detective branch (south) Deputy Commissioner Krishna Podo Ray made the revelations at a press conference held at the capital.

“We received information of fake DB police and abductors and made the detentions,” he added.

Separate cases were filed with Jatrabari and Tejgaon police stations against the arrestees and raids are underway to trace others involved.

The anti-kidnapping squad team of DMP has been launched on May 3, in the wake of rise of abduction rate
