The detainees are Badruddoza Sagar, Shah Mohammad Ashraf, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Manjur Hossain and Mujib Khan.

Inspector Golam Morshed, officer-in-charge of Paltan police station, said they arrested those five directors of Hotel Regency following a case filed by one Kabir Reza on charges of demanding extortion money from him and beating him inside Ananda Bhaban Community Centre in Naya Paltan.

Plaintiff Kabir Reza filed the case accusing several people, mentioning the names of those five directors of Hotel Regency and three others.

“As per the court order, we conducted a raid at the hotel and arrested the accused,” the OC said.

Sources in Hotel Regency and police said there was a dispute over the ownership of the hotel between the accused persons and three other persons, including plaintiff Kabir Reza. Two other persons were Mosleh Ahmed and Adis Ahmed.

Asked about the dispute over the ownership of the hotel, the OC said, “We are investigating the matter.”
