105kg gold seized at Shahjalal

Customs intelligence officials have recovered at least 904 pieces of gold bars weighing 105kg from the toilet of a Biman flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

The gold bars worth Tk48 crore, have been seized around 2:30pm from a aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines that landed at the airport around 8am, said Customs intelligence officials.

According to Customs intelligence officials, acting on a tip-off, the customs officials raided the aircraft and recovered the gold bars wrapped in 14 separate packets.

Later, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Golam Hossain addressed a press briefing in connection with the recovery.

He said: “The estimated price of the gold bars is Tk 48 crore and each bar weighs 10 tolas of gold. Md Anisuddin Bhuiya, an employee of the civil aviation, has been arrested in connection.

Investigation is underway. The detail information on the gold haul will be known soon,” he added.
