Teen killed for ‘protesting stalkers’

A teenager has been killed during Pahela Baishakh celebrations in Jessore Sadar upazila because he “protested against harassment over females.”

Islam, 18, son of Afzal Hossain from Jessore town, was stabbed during a cultural programme at Jessore Government City College on Friday night.

Jessore Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Emdadul Haque Sheikh said Islam, an attendant of the programme, was stabbed by miscreants around 9pm.

“The youth was stabbed in the cultural programme marking Pahela Baishakh. He later succumbed at Jessore Medical College Hospital around 9:45pm.”

Witnesses said ruling party-backed men of Barandipara area stabbed Islam because he protested against their harassment over females at the programme.

However, police could not ascertain a motive behind the killing.
