Chairman of Kunda union parishad in South Keraniganj, and president of the local Awami League unit, Atikullah Chowdhury’s charred body was found yesterday evening, 21 hours after his disappearance.
The 65-year-old freedom fighter’s body was recovered by police from the west side of the 10-bed hospital in Kunda sometime around 6pm. His legs and hands were bound.

Police detained three individuals for questioning. Abu Bakar, investigation officer at south Keraniganj police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that Atikullah had gone missing at around 9:30pm, Tuesday, on his way home from AL activist Aslam Sikder’s house in Hasnabad. His son filed a GD with the South Keraniganj police on Wednesday morning.
The police, however, were not completely convinced yet that the body was Atikullah’s, seeing how severely burnt it was.
