Three arrested over Tk 38L robbery in Dhanmondi

Police have arrested three alleged robbers in connection with the robbery of Tk38 lakh at gunpoint in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area and recovered a locally made revolver and four rounds of ammunition from their possession.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Aktar Hossain confirmed the arrests.

The robbery took place around noon on Sunday near Dhanmondi Lake when a man carrying the money after withdrawing it from a bank in Dhanmondi was intercepted by three men riding a motorcycle.

The robbers snatched his bag containing the money and fled, police said.

The victim immediately chased them. At one point, one of the suspects fell off the motorcycle and was caught by local residents, who also recovered a revolver and four rounds of ammunition from him.

After being informed, police from Dhanmondi Model Police Station went to the scene and arrested the suspect, identified as Tanvir Abedin, 41.

Later, Dhanmondi police and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) conducted a joint operation with Tanvir and arrested two other alleged members of the robbery gang—Md Mojibur Rahman, 60, and Md Zakir Hossain, alias Captain Zakir, 60.
