Adabor Police Station officer-in-charge and a sub-inspector were injured during a raid against suspected muggers in the capital’s Adabor area on Tuesday afternoon. Two suspects were shot and four others were detained in the operation, police said.

According to police, the operation was launched following a mugging incident earlier in the day in which a bKash agent was robbed of Tk300,000 in Shekhertek, Adabor.

Around 11am, the victim, Shafiqul Islam, was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and robbed of the cash. Acting on information gathered during the investigation, a police team later conducted a raid behind Delta Garments near Dhaka Udyan to arrest those involved.

Police said the suspects attacked the law enforcers with locally made sharp weapons during the raid, triggering a confrontation in which two alleged muggers were shot in what authorities described as self-defence.

Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jahidul Islam while speaking with Dhaka Tribune said he and SI Tarun were injured in the attack.

“The attackers attempted to strike me on the head. I tried to block the blow with my hand, resulting in a deep cut,” he said, adding that SI Tarun also sustained injuries to his arm.

Police said four suspects were detained from the scene, including the two who were shot. One of the arrested individuals was identified as a leader of a gang known locally as “Kobji Kata Anowar.”

The OC said the group had multiple criminal cases against them, with the four detainees facing 12, seven, five and one cases respectively.

He also said he fired four rounds from his service weapon in self-defence after the suspects attacked the police team.

Following the incident, police said drives against mugging gangs in Mohammadpur and Adabor would be intensified.

“We will conduct stronger and more coordinated operations to eliminate mugging gangs operating in these areas,” the OC said.

Police Headquarters data show that attacks on law enforcement remain a continuing concern. According to official figures, police faced 1,061 attacks nationwide in the 22 months following August 5, 2024—averaging about 48 incidents per month. Of these, 192 occurred in the final five months of 2024, 601 in 2025, and 268 between January and May 2026.
