Bus driver, conductor beaten to death by passengers over extra fare

  • Bus helper escapes the attack 
  • Legal process is underway, say police

A  driver and a conductor of a passenger bus died after being beaten up following an argument with passengers over extra fare in Ashulia of Savar Monday. 

The deceased are Sohail Rana Babu, 26, from Tongi area of Gazipur and Hridoy, 30, from the Phulpur area of Mymensingh, driver and conductor of “Itihash Paribahan” respectively.

Police Inspector (Investigation) of Ashulia police station Md Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Police recovered the bodies of the deceased after receiving the information.

The incident took place in the EPZ area of Nabinagar-Chandra highway around 2pm on Monday.

According to the police, the bus driver and conductor of Itishah Paribahan were attacked by passengers for asking for extra fare.

They were seriously injured in the attack.

Being rescued, they were taken to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital where they died under treatment around 7:30pm.

Quoting the bus helper of the bus, police said that the bus leaving from Mirpur had an argument with the passengers over the extra fare. One of them threatened to beat them up.

Later, when the bus reached the EPZ area, some youths boarded the bus and started beating the driver and the contractor.

Meanwhile, the helper of the bus ran away.

Later, the driver and the conductor were sent to the hospital with serious injuries where they died while undergoing treatment.

Legal proceedings are ongoing in this incident, said the inspector.
