Police detained two BNP leaders with two bottles filled with petrol from Moghbazar area in the capital on Thursday.
The arrestees are Ebadul Bepari, 37, joint convener of Swechasebak Dal of Hatirjheel thana unit and Sabuj Mia, 27, a member of the party.
A gas lighter and old clothes were also recovered from their possession while they attempted to set a car on fire in the area around 2:30pm.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Hafiz Al Farooq of Tejgaon Industrial Zone, confirmed this incident.
