A seven-year-old was reportedly raped in Pangsa upazila of Rajbari on Monday by her neighbour.
Locals caught the accused, Munnaf Sheikh alias Bangal, 45, and handed him over to police the same day. Munnaf lives with his in-laws in Chorjhikri village of Habaspur.
Quoting the survivor, a pre-primary school student, her mother told this correspondent that Munnaf had covered her mouth, took her inside his house and raped her.

Another neighbour Rasheda Khatun said she had seen the incident happening through the window. When she called the girl’s name, she ran out of the room.
Locals then apprehended Munnaf and gave him a beating before handing him over to the police.
The child’s mother filed a case with Pangsa Model police station on Monday night under Article 9 (1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
Munnaf was sent to jail via court on Tuesday afternoon, according to Officer-in-Charge Md Masudur Rahman.
