Police have arrested three individuals accused of raping a student from Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST).
The arrests were made on Tuesday night from various areas of Pabna Sadar.
The court ordered them to be sent to jail on Wednesday.
The arrested individuals are Mehedi Masud, 26, from Kalachandpara, Mahmudul Hasan Sajid, 23, from Chak Ramchandrapur, and Harunur Rashid, 27, from Oshalgaria Forest Para.
According to a press release issued by the Police Headquarters, the victim sought legal assistance through the “Find My Advocate” platform, which then contacted the Bangladesh Police Women’s Welfare Association (Punak).
Punak subsequently informed the local police station about the matter.
The statement further mentioned that Punak President Afroza Helen and Joint Secretary Touhida Nupur supervised the case investigation.
Sanjay Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge (Operations) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said: “The victim’s ex-boyfriend, Mehedi Hasan, took her to the city’s Meril Bypass Forest area under the pretext of having tea on Monday. Later, in a premeditated move, he and two others took her to an abandoned spot in the forest and raped her. The victim’s mother filed a written complaint at Pabna Sadar Police Station on Tuesday night. The three accused individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.”
