A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against a suspended assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Sohel Uddin Prince in a case filed over the rape of a woman, who is also a government official.

Judge Al Mamun of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-6 issued the arrest warrant after receiving the probe report of the case, said the plaintiff's lawyer Anwarul Kabir Babul.

The suspended ASP joined the police force through the 36th BCS examination.

According to the case statement, Sohel Uddin Prince asked the rape survivor to marry him, and she accepted the proposal.

On February 4, 2021, Sohel Uddin asked the woman to come to Ramna Police Officers' Mess and said the marriage would take place there. However, at one point that day, Sohel Uddin threatened her and sexually violated her.

The woman said that Sohel Uddin had been married before. He was suspended as a dowry case was filed against him by his ex-wife.
