Policeman arrested for attempted murder of wife

A police constable has been arrested for trying to kill his wife for dowry in Dhaka. The accused policeman, identified as Arif, works in Dhaka Metropolitan Police's traffic division. He was arrested on Friday night after his wife Tamanna accused him of attempted murder, said Tejgaon police station's Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam, reports Bangla Tribune. Arif will be produced before the court on Saturday. Tamanna claimed her husband often physically tortured her for dowry. The couple had an altercation over dowry on Friday noon when Arif attacked his wife with a kitchen knife, the OC said, quoting the victim. Neighbours later rescued Tamanna and took her to hospital. She went to Tejgaon police station after receiving first aid and filed an attempted murder case against Arif. The policeman has been shown arrested in the case, the OC added.
