47kg venison recovered in Bagerhat; 3 detained

Coast guard detains man with 500g of marijuana in separate raid

Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained three smugglers along with a deer head and 47 kilograms of venison in Bagerhat.

The detained are Mona Sardar, 32, Jahid Sheikh, 38, and Md Shahidul, 40.

Tipped off, a coast guard patrol team conducted a special raid in the area adjacent to Digraj Bazar under Mongla police station in the district at 8pm on Saturday, said Lt Mazharul Haque, the zonal commander of the maritime law enforcement force.

The detained smugglers and the illegal meat in their possession have been handed over to the Forest Department for further legal action.

The coast guard, in another raid on the same day, detained a man along with Tk7,440 in cash and 500 grams of marijuana from an area adjacent to Pankhali Ferry Ghat under Dacope police station in Khulna.

The detained was identified as Md Abul Kalam, 35. 

The coast guard handed him and the illegal drug over to Dacope police for taking legal action.
