The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained at least three Myanmar nationals from a fishing trawler in Saint Martin Island of Teknaf upazila, Cox’s Bazar.

They also recovered 4,50,000 yaba pills from three plastic sacks and 9.51 lakh kyat, the Myanmar currency, from their possession.

“Along with the Saint Marin Coast Guard, we were patrolling on the Bay of Bengal near Saint Martin’s Island early on Monday morning. At one stage, we spotted a mechanised wooden fishing boat 5 nautical miles off St Martin’s Island,” said Lt Commander Amirul Haque, station in-charge of Teknaf Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard challenged the men and found the yaba pills in the trawler, he said, adding that the Coast Guards also arrested all three Myanmar citizens and seized the trawler along with the drugs.

The identities of the Myanmar nationals could not be known.
