Customs Intelligence officials have detained a man carrying 10 gold bars inside his socks at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID), told the Dhaka Tribune that the smuggler was intercepted by customs officials as he attempted to cross the green channel, because of his "suspicious walking manner".
"After searching his body, the officials found the gold bars fastened to the sole of his feet with scotch-tape," Moinul said.
The CIID chief said the value of the gold bars was estimated at Tk50 lakh.
He said: "Mohiuddin, who works at a plastic factory, confessed during interrogation that he smuggled the gold for Tk50,000."
A case will be filed against the detainee.
