Police have arrested a woman and five people of a gang in Comilla on charges of demanding money after building fraudulent relationships.
They were sent to jail on Wednesday.
Gouripur police outpost In-charge ASM Abdun Noor said they arrested six people and rescued two victims from a restaurant.
Police say Diana Akhtar Sathi, 22, wife of Nabir Hossain of Puniatan village under Muradnagar upazila, developed a relationship with Ismail, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Dubai, who came home recently, over phone.
On Tuesday, Sathi invited Ismail to a restaurant. Ismail along with a friend went there to meet Sathi.
As Ismail and his friend arrived at the restaurant, Sathi along with her husband Nabir and his associates held them hostage, beat them up and demanded Tk2 lakh as ransom.
At one stage, the victims called up one of their friends and sought help. The friend, Shakil, informed police of the matter. Gouripur police went to the restaurant and rescued the victims. Police also arrested six people on the spot.
