Mitu's father asks for killer's identity to be revealed

“Whether her husband [former superintendent of police Babul Akter] or someone else killed her, I request police to reveal the murderer's name,” he said while speaking to reporters at Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Headquarters on Thursday. The former police official also requested further investigation to find the motive behind the gruesome murder and identify those who were involved in it. Mosharraf was at the CMP headquarters for interrogation regarding Mitu's murder, conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Kamruzzaman of the Detective Branch of police, who is also the investigation officer of the case. However, he expressed satisfaction with the investigation's progress. “We are satisfied with theway this investigation is progressing. The investigationofficer has discussed the case's developmentwith me,” he said. Earlier on December 15, Mitu's husband Babul, who filed the case, was interrogated by the investigation officer at the CMP, where he confessed that Kamrul Islam Musa, prime accused in the case, was one of his informants.

Musa is still in hiding. The CMP has declared Tk5-lakh bounty on his whereabouts. Asked whether he and his family suspected Babul's connection with the murder, Mosharraf said: “We do not suspect his involvement, but we have asked the investigation officer to find out whether he was involved, or it was someone else.” Asked what he thought about the connection between Babul and Musa, the prime accused, he said: “I do not know much about it. I came to know of their connection by reading news.” Kamruzzaman, the investigation officer, told reporters that he had received some information from Mitu's father during his interrogation. “Police will now verify the information he has provided,” he added.

Asked if there was any discrepancy between Babul's and his father-in-law's statements, Kamruzzaman said: “We are still verifying the information.” Mitu, mother of two children, was stabbed and shot to death near her house in Chittagong city's GEC intersection by three motorbike riders on June 5 when she was taking her son to his school bus.
