Update : 08 Sep 2017, 02:34 AM
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on Thursday found more explosives from Komol Prova, the militant hideout at Darus Salam in Dhaka’s Mirpur area from where seven charred bodies were recovered the previous day after a 38-hour raid. RAB has decided to continue their sweeping operation in the six-storey apartment until the entire building is risk-free, said RAB spokesman Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan. “We have found some powerful IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device) from the fifth floor of the building and our Bomb Disposal Unit is working to defuse those explosives. “It would take some more time to sweep all the hazardous items from the building,” the RAB official added. Examining the entire building and the power of the explosives that were exploded and recovered following the raid, the RAB high official termed the militant den as the “bomb-making laboratory” of New JMB. Earlier, RAB personnel found 10 IEDs from the militant hideout in the beginning of fourth-day’s operation, said RAB Media Wing Deputy Director Major Abdullah Al Mehedi. The RAB official said: “The IEDs we found were wrapped in paper. We are searching the building to check if there are more explosives in the flat.” Meanwhile, the head of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Forensic Department Dr Sohel Mahmud said: “The seven persons were killed in the explosion and their bodies were fully burnt.” “Among the seven, two were children. Splinters, wires and damaged parts of torch-lights were also found with the bodies.” “The bones were taken from the bodies in order to collect their DNAs,” said the physician, after completing the autopsy of the seven bodies. RAB-4 Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Tareque lodged an unnatural death case with Darus Salam police station over the seven dead bodies found incident, said RAB spokesman Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan. Commander Mufti said: “The house owner of Komol Prova, Habibullah Bahar Azad, and the night guard Sirajul Islam, 25, were arrested in connection with the incident.”The missing night guardSirajul, a night guard of Vanga Dewal lane – where the building Komol Prova is located, went missing on Monday night while the Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday confirmed that Sirajul was in their custody. Earlier, Sirajul’s wife Nazma Begum told the Dhaka Tribune: “My husband did not come back home on Tuesday morning. His mobile phone was found switched off.”Is Kamal among the dead?A 22-year-old man, who used to work at the Mirpur’s militant den as per his family, has been missing since Sunday. Kamal’s father Abdul Malek said: “I have had no contact with my son since the second day of Eid. He had worked at Abdullah’s residence for the last six months. He helped Abdullah to look after his pigeons.” “My son is not a militant. He used to pray but was not a fanatic. Abdullah is responsible for my son’s death,” he also said. Kamal’s parents believe their son was killed in the explosions at Abdullah’s house. Regarding Kamal’s absence, Commander Mufti told the Dhaka Tribune: “We found two bodies of Abdullah’s associates from the flat. But we are not sure whether Kamal is one of them. The bodies have been sent for DNA testing.”
