Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport witnessed heightened security after receiving a threat late Wednesday night from a Malaysian mobile number claiming that explosives were inside the airport.

Unprecedented security measures were immediately implemented, involving the Aviation Security Force (Avsec), the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn), and other law enforcement agencies.

An alert team from the army was deployed overnight but left the airport premises Thursday morning after extensive searches yielded no results.

Airport Armed Police Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kawsar Ahmed confirmed the increased security.

According to airport sources, the threat was delivered via a mobile message stating that a large quantity of explosives was hidden in a bag inside the airport and might detonate around 2am.

In response, airport authorities launched a comprehensive search involving the Air Force's Avsec unit, Quick Response Force (QRF), the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's SWAT unit, and other specialized teams.

Despite a thorough operation, no explosives were found.

ASP Kawsar Ahmed explained that the message included a photo of luggage and described the type of bag allegedly containing the explosives.

"Security has been intensified, and every suspicious area is being inspected. Passengers' luggage is undergoing 100% scanning," he said.

This follows an earlier incident on Wednesday, where a threat from a Pakistani mobile number falsely claimed that a Biman Bangladesh flight arriving from Rome contained explosives. That incident also resulted in a six-hour search but found no such device.
