Janakantha editor asked to surrender

Update : 28 Mar 2016, 07:43 PM

The Supreme Court yesterday asked Daily Janakantha Editor Atikullah Khan Masud to surrender within seven days in a case filed for forgery of construction plans of a city building.

Atikullah Khan, the chairman of business group Globe Janakantha Shilpa Paribar (GJSP), will be granted bail from the trial court after he surrenders, ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan told the Dhaka Tribune.

The four-member bench of the Appellate Division also cleared way for the Anti Corruption Commission to file an appeal against a High Court verdict, which scrapped a seven-year jail sentence given to him by the trial court.

ACC filed five cases against Atikullah on August 9, 2007 for tampering the design of a multi-storey building in the city’s Malibagh area.

A Dhaka court found Atikullah guilty in the cases and handed him a 35-year jail sentence altogether as well as a fine of Tk16 crore.
