High Court clears 3,409 old cases in a day amid special drive to ease backlog

The High Court Division disposed of 3,409 old cases in a single day as part of a continuing special initiative aimed at reducing the case backlog and ensuring speedy justice for litigants.

On Thursday (June 25), the criminal motion benches disposed of 3,009 old criminal miscellaneous cases, while the writ motion benches settled 400 old writ petitions.

The information was disclosed in a press release signed by Supreme Court of Bangladesh Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam.

According to the release, since the launch of the special drive, a total of 18,181 old criminal miscellaneous cases and 5,968 writ cases have been disposed of over five working days, with one dedicated day each week. In total, 24,149 old cases have so far been disposed of by the High Court Division.

The initiative, undertaken under the directives of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh, is being implemented through designated criminal motion and writ motion benches to address long-pending cases. It aims to reduce case backlog, ensure faster justice delivery and improve overall efficiency in the judiciary.
