A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed three individuals, including former Jubo Dal leader Moin Uddin, on a three-day remand in connection with a case over an alleged Tk 500,000 lac extortion demand at the Centre for Kidney Diseases and Urology (CKDU) hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order on Tuesday afternoon after a hearing. The two other accused are: MB Swapan Kazi and Md Shawon Hossain.

Earlier, the investigation officer and Sub-Inspector Md Sabbir Ahmed of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station sought a seven-day remand, citing preliminary evidence of the accused involvement.

He told the court that custodial interrogation was necessary to identify absconding suspects and uncover further details of the incident.

The defence, however, appealed for bail and the cancellation of the remand, while the prosecution opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand for each of the accused.

According to case documents, Md Abu Hanif, in-charge of the operation theatre at CKDU hospital, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on April 11. Moin Uddin was named as the prime accused along with 7–8 unidentified individuals.

The complaint alleges that Moin and his associates had been demanding Tk 500,000 in extortion for some time. When the demand was refused, they allegedly issued threats and intimidation. On the morning of April 10, they reportedly went to the complainant’s residence on Road No 3 in Shyamoli, repeated their demand, and behaved in a disorderly manner.

The case statement further claims that 50–60 people later gathered in front of the hospital, creating chaos, chanting slogans, and issuing threats, raising concerns over disruptions to the hospital’s normal operations.
Earlier, on April 13, four associates of Moin were arrested and produced before the court, which granted a four-day remand for them. On the same day, police arrested Moin Uddin from the Kalia Police Station area in Narail district.
