The court asked the CEC to respond to the rule within four weeks

Update : 25 Jan 2026, 02:56 PM

The High Court on Sunday issued a rule asking why disciplinary action should not be taken against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin for allegedly disobeying a court order.

The court asked the CEC to respond to the rule within four weeks.

The rule was issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Asif Hasan.

Advocate Yunus Ali Akand appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Yunus Ali Akand said the High Court on August 27, 2025, had directed the chief election commissioner to resolve the registration of a political party. However, the order was not implemented, prompting the filing of a contempt of court petition.

He added that he had earlier applied to the Election Commission for the registration of a political party named Krishak Sramik Janata Party. As the application remained unresolved, he subsequently filed an appeal with the High Court.
