Shammo murder: Suspect gives confessional statement

A suspect has given a confessional statement over his involvement in the stabbing death of Dhaka University (DU) student Shahriar Alam Shammo, while three others have been placed on remand as part of the ongoing investigation.

Md Ripon gave his confessional statement to the court on Monday when police brought those arrested in the murder case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.

The investigating officer sought a seven-day remand for three suspects -- Sohag, Hridoy Islam and Robin.

After the hearing, Magistrate Saifuzzaman granted a two-day remand for them.

Another accused, Sujon Sarker, was sent to jail as police requested his detention.

All five suspects appeared in court after their arrest in different areas in the capital on Sunday.

Shahriar Alam Shammo, a student of the 2018–19 session of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of DU, was stabbed to death on May 13 near Suhrawardy Udyan.

Following the incident, his elder brother Shariful Islam filed a case at Shahbagh police station on May 14.
