A Narayanganj court has rejected the bail petition of Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and a leader of the Awami League.
The bail and division petitions were submitted on Monday afternoon before the court of Judge Shamsur Rahman of the Narayanganj Judicial Magistrate Court 2.
Following hearings from both the prosecution and defense, the court denied the bail request, confirmed Court Police Inspector Kaiyum Khan.
Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Masum, representing Ivy, said: “We filed a petition seeking bail for former mayor Ivy, but the court rejected it. She also held the status of a state minister. We requested the court to grant her division facilities in custody and the court agreed in principle, instructing the prison authorities to make necessary arrangements.”
Ivy was arrested at around 5:45am on Friday at her residence, Chunka Kutir, located in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj city.
The previous night, when police initially attempted to detain her, local residents gathered in front of her home in protest and obstructed the arrest.
