The investigators of the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) have been trying to recover the deleted information and evidence of the July uprising by using the most sophisticated technology, ICT Chief Prosecutor of Muhammad Tajul Islam said on Sunday in a views exchange meeting with reporters covering ICT at his office.

The chief prosecutor told the media that the perpetrators of the deposed Awami League government have tried to destroy or erase the information and evidence of the July uprising.

They tried to burn or destroy it secretly from the police stations and hospitals, he said, adding that they also tried to suppress the information and evidence of crime-prone establishments by changing its structure, destroying walls or disfiguring it. The investigators are trying to recover the lost evidence, he added.

Tajul said there were attempts to destroy or delete the digital evidence, including video and audio clips and internet data of the uprising, after the fall of the "fascist” government.

Students in support of the abolishment of the quota system in government service launched a movement in July last year, and the situation heated up following a judgment from the High Court.

Following the 36 days students led mass upsurge the then prime minister Sheikh Hasina had to resign on August 5 and flee away from the country. The ICT has been trying to bring those associated with crimes “against humanity” during the movement under trial.
