A Dhaka court on Sunday acquitted Mosaddek Ali Falu, a former adviser to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, of charges in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information in his wealth statement.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict, acquitting the BNP leader as the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt, ACC public prosecutor Mir Ahmed Salam confirmed.

According to case documents, Falu submitted his wealth statement through his lawyer on March 1, 2007.

Following an investigation, the ACC claimed to have found that he had illegally acquired wealth worth Tk45.66 crore and had concealed information about assets worth Tk10.60 crore in his statement.

The ACC filed the case with Motijheel police station on July 8, 2007.

The court formally framed charges in the case on August 27, 2018. However, it began recording witness testimonies on February 1, 2023.
