The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday began preparing an inventory of the belongings inside two flats owned by former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed in Gulshan, Dhaka, following a court order.
The commission said the process is expected to take two days.
ACC officials entered the two flats at around 10:30am in the presence of an executive magistrate. Police members were also present.
ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam said a joint team led by ACC Deputy Director Md Mashiur Rahman was preparing the inventory with the court's permission in the presence of an executive magistrate.
Md Mashiur Rahman, who is leading the investigation team, told Dhaka Tribune: “The process of preparing the inventory of the items inside the flats is underway. It will take two days to complete.”
ACC officials said a warranty card for a Rolex wristwatch was found during the inventory of one flat. According to the card, the watch bears model number 50519 and serial number 73452459, while the buyer's name is listed as Saifuzzaman Chowdhury. An 18-carat white gold Rolex Cellini Date model of this type may cost up to approximately $16,500.
The two flats are located at Plot No 11, Northwest (B) Block, Road No 66, Gulshan. Flat A-7 measures 3,747 square feet and Flat B-7 measures 3,832 square feet, with a combined area of 7,579 square feet.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court appointed the director of the ACC's Asset Management Unit as receiver of the two flats. The receiver is responsible for the control, management, supervision and maintenance of the properties.
According to the ACC, the receiver was unable to enter the flats because they were locked, preventing work to make them suitable for renting. Following an ACC application, the court on April 29 granted permission to unlock the flats and prepare an inventory of the belongings, even in the absence of the persons concerned in the allegations.
To implement the court order, Gulshan Revenue Circle Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Niloy Rahman was assigned as the executive magistrate. The ACC also asked Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed and the building manager, Imran Hossain, to be present during the process.
Court documents show that the two flats were attached by court order on November 18, 2025. A receiver was appointed on January 12 this year, and on April 29, the court authorized officials to unlock the flats, enter them and prepare an inventory of the belongings.
A joint ACC team is investigating allegations of corruption, illegal wealth accumulation and money laundering against Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, persons connected to his interests and related entities.
On Jan. 13 this year, following an ACC application, the court ordered the seizure of 330 houses, flats and apartments in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, India, Thailand and Vietnam. According to the ACC, those assets, along with investments in two companies in the United States, are valued at approximately Tk2,321 crore.
On February 26, the court also ordered the seizure of 518 flats and apartments in the United Kingdom in his name. According to the ACC application, the assets are valued at £271,852,872.
In March 2025, the court ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts and the seizure of shares in 23 companies. During different stages of the investigation, additional bank and BO accounts belonging to him and persons connected to his interests, were also frozen.
Separately, in March this year, a court in Chittagong ordered the trial to begin by framing charges against Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, his wife and 36 others in a case over allegations of laundering Tk25 crore abroad through a loan from United Commercial Bank. The court also issued arrest warrants for the absconding accused.
In various applications, the ACC has alleged that Saifuzzaman acquired assets through irregularities and corruption and laundered money abroad. The allegations have not yet been judicially resolved.
Saifuzzaman has denied the allegations regarding his overseas assets, saying he purchased the assets with income from legitimate business and that the actions taken against him were politically motivated.
