The High Court has dismissed a case filed against Nobel laureate and Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus over allegations of adulteration in Grameen Danone's Shokti Doi, a brand of yoghurt.

A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Hafizul Alam and Justice Md Atabullah delivered the verdict on Monday, granting the rule issued for dismissing the case.

Advocate Tanim Hussain Shawon represented Yunus in court, while Deputy Attorney General Taherul Islam Towhid represented the state.

Earlier, in 2010, the then Dhaka City Corporation alleged that a 100-gram yoghurt sample from a shop in Bangsal was found to be adulterated.

Subsequently, on January 10, 2011, Dhaka City Corporation Health Inspector Md Kamrul Hasan filed a case against shop owner Md Abul Kashem, supplier Md Tushar, and Grameen Danone Foods Limited chair Muhammad Yunus.

On January 27, 2011, Yunus secured bail in the case. Later, he filed a petition with the High Court seeking dismissal of the case.

The High Court issued a rule and a stay order on the proceedings.

Advocate Tanim Hossain Shawon said that there were some errors in the case. "Additionally, the chief adviser was merely the chairman of the organization without any executive power."

However, the case was filed to harass him, Shawon added.

"In 2011, he applied to the High Court for dismissal of the case. The court then issued a rule and a stay order. After hearing the rule, the court has now declared the rule valid and dismissed the case."
