Magura rape: Prime accused provides confessional statement

The other three accused in this case are also in remand, says Additional Superintendent of Police Mirajul Islam

The prime accused in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old child in Magura, has given a confessional statement in court.

On Saturday evening, Senior Judicial Magistrate of Magura Judge Sabyasachi Roy, recorded the prime accused, Hitu Mia’s statement.

The matter was confirmed by the plaintiff's panel lawyer, Shahed Hasan, and Magura's additional superintendent of police, Mirajul Islam, as per Bangla Tribune.

Lawyer Shahed Hasan said: "Accused Hitu Mia gave a confessional statement under Section 164 in the private chamber of Senior Judicial Magistrate Sabyasachi Roy from the afternoon till the evening."

Additional Superintendent of Police Mirajul Islam said: "The accused Hitu Mia has given a statement. However, further details will be provided later. The other three accused in this case are also in remand."

According to police and the victim's family, the child had gone to visit her sister’s house in Nijnanduali village of Magura town when she was raped and subjected to an attempted murder on March 6.

The incident sparked outrage across the country.

On March 8, the victim’s mother filed a case at Magura Sadar police station against four individuals for rape and attempted murder.

The accused in the case are the child's brother-in-law Sajib Hossain, 18, his father Hitu Mia, 42, Sajib’s brother, 17, and his mother Jabeda Begum, 40. All four have been arrested.

On Monday night, the court granted a seven-day remand for Hitu Mia and a five-day remand for the other three accused.
