A case has been filed against Rakhal Raha, also known as Sajjadur Rahman, a member of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Textbook Revision Committee, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
The Dhaka Cyber Tribunal has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter.
Judge Noor Alam of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Monday took cognizance of the case, which was filed by Sajjad Hossain.
Confirming the matter, plaintiff’s lawyer Md Jewel said that the court has instructed the CID to investigate the allegations and submit a report by May 22.
According to the case statement, on February 17, Rakhal Raha allegedly made a Facebook post insulting Islam, which was later reported in various media outlets. Sajjad Hossain, the plaintiff, claimed he learned about the post from multiple sources.
On February 25, he initially approached Motijheel police station to file a case, but the police advised him to take the matter to court.
Following their advice, he filed the case in court on Monday, seeking legal action against Rakhal Raha and justice for the Muslim community.
The court has taken the allegations into account and has ordered the CID to investigate before further proceedings.
