A Dhaka court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant for actor Pori Moni after framing charges against her in a case filed by Nasir U Mahmud, the former president of Uttara Club Limited, involving allegations of assault, vandalism, attempted murder, and issuing threats.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Junaid of Dhaka rejected their plea for additional time and passed the order.
The court has set March 20 as the date for witness testimony.
Pori Moni’s lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat (Suravi), confirmed the information, saying: “The date was set for the charge hearing, but Pori Moni could not appear due to illness. A time application was also filed on behalf of the other accused, Jimi. The court rejected the time application, framed charges, and issued an arrest warrant against them.”
Businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud had filed the case on July 6, 2022.
According to the case documents, Inspector Md Monir Hossain of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Dhaka, submitted an investigation report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.
The report confirmed the validity of allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and Jimi.
On April 18, 2022, Senior Judicial Magistrate M Saiful Islam issued summons requiring both accused to appear in court on June 25.
On that date, the accused surrendered and secured bail.
The case complaint alleges that Pori Moni and her associates are alcohol consumers who frequent high-end clubs, consume alcohol, and leave without paying.
It also said that Pori Moni uses her connections with law enforcement to intimidate others by threatening to file false cases.
On the night of June 9, 2021, around 12:00am, Pori Moni and her associates reportedly entered the Boat Club in Savar, used the restroom, and consumed alcohol in the club.
Around 1:15am, when Nasir Uddin and his associate Shah Shahidul Alam were leaving, Pori Moni allegedly called out to Nasir, inviting him to join their table.
She reportedly made inappropriate gestures to entice him and pressured him to provide a free parcel of Blue Label whiskey.
When Nasir refused, Pori Moni allegedly insulted him, threw a glass at him, and attacked him with her mobile phone, causing injuries to his head and chest.
She and her associates allegedly assaulted Nasir Uddin, threatened him with murder, and vandalized the property.
To counter the incident, Pori Moni reportedly filed a case at the Savar police station against Nasir Uddin and another individual, accusing them of attempted rape and murder.
