A Dhaka court has ordered former rail minister Nurul Islam Sujan to be sent to jail following the conclusion of a five-day remand in connection with the murder of a youth named Rafiqul Islam in the Jatrabari area.
On Saturday, the investigating officer, Mrigangk Shekhar Talukdar, filed a request to keep Sujan in custody after the remand period ended. In response, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub issued the order for his incarceration.
Sub-inspector Asaduzzaman from the court's general registration branch confirmed the ruling.
The court had initially granted a five-day remand on September 22. Sujan was arrested on the night of September 16 from Room 833 of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shamoli, Dhaka.
The following day, a request for a five-day remand regarding the murder of a student named Imran Hasan was submitted, but the court approved only a three-day remand.
His lawyer later sought to cancel the remand, citing an ongoing bail hearing at a higher court.
The investigating officer then applied for a 10-day remand related to the murder of Rafiqul Islam, resulting in Sujan’s arrest and subsequent remand in this case.
