He emphasised the need to stop using court cases and the judicial system as tools to harass people

Addressing the judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, Law Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul raised concerns about why people feel uncomfortable when seeking justice.

He made these remarks while speaking at an event in the inner garden of the Supreme Court's main building on Saturday, where the chief justice addressed the judiciary.

Dr Nazrul emphasised the need to stop using court cases and the judicial system as tools to harass people.

Referring to a case involving Dr Muhammad Yunus, the law adviser said: "You were uncomfortable to accept the request of the current chief adviser, Dr Muhammad Yunus. Listen and reject if necessary — there’s no problem. But not listening at all tarnishes your reputation. Some judges have done this, and it shouldn't happen again. People are not foolish; they have their own judgment."

Regarding politically motivated cases, Dr Nazrul commented: "A fascist government started the culture of disappearance cases and fabricated cases. We must move away from that."

He pointed out that many people have been victims of such cases.

"We want to establish true justice," Dr Nazrul said. "We need to move beyond using the judiciary to harass people, destroy livelihoods, and create ongoing wounds, anger, and conflicts."
