International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Advocate Md Tajul Islam said the police had Chinese rifles for firing during the movement, and the previous Awami League government will have to answer who supplied these rifles to the police.
He said this while talking to reporters on the Supreme Court premises on Sunday afternoon.
The chief prosecutor has expressed optimism that the ICT will be restructured within the next week.
He further added: "Last week, we had discussions with the law adviser. We have demanded a quick restructuring of the tribunal because, without it, we cannot obtain any necessary orders from the court. Many operations are halted without court orders. He (law adviser) has assured us. It is likely that the restructuring will happen within a week, and then the formal judicial process will begin."
He added: "The investigation agency and prosecution team are visiting hospitals to collect fresh evidence. Today (Sunday), a bullet typically used by the military on battlefields was surgically removed. These are being collected as evidence. We are calling on everyone who has any evidence, or relatives of the injured and deceased, to submit their information to the prosecution."
The tribunal needs more investigating officers. He also said that more lawyers should be appointed in the prosecution.
