The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered the arrest of a man for making allegations on Facebook that Tk12,000 crore had been transacted in connection with a case involving former prime minister Sheikh Hasina over the July–August crimes against humanity incidents.
The tribunal also directed authorities to take necessary action against those who liked, commented on and shared the post.
The order was issued on Tuesday by a judicial panel led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumder, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1, taking into account a complaint of contempt of court.
According to the prosecution, the accused, identified as MH Patwari Babu, made the post on his Facebook account around three days ago, attaching images of several individuals, including Justice Mazumder, interim government Legal Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, former chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam and Supreme Court lawyer Shishir Monir.
In the post, he alleged that the individuals had taken money from various sources to influence proceedings in the case.
The tribunal viewed the post as contemptuous, officials said.
According to information presented in court, the post drew significant engagement, including thousands of reactions, comments and shares.
Following the tribunal’s order, a police team led by Special Investigation Officer and Prosecutor Tanvir Hossain Joha conducted a raid in the Uttara area of the capital on Tuesday night. However, the accused could not be located, the prosecutor said.
