Ansar members taken to court over Secretariat siege

Arrested Ansar members face charges of clashing with students, injuring military personnel and vandalizing vehicles

A total of 109 Ansar members, arrested on charges of unlawful assembly and obstructing police duties, have been taken to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka. 

They were being held in the court lockup on Monday afternoon. They are accused in separate cases filed with Shahbagh, Ramna and Paltan police stations in the capital.

The number of arrestees is likely to increase, according to media reports.

A total of 352 members of the Ansar force, involved in a protest blocking the Secretariat, have been taken into police custody. They face charges of clashing with students, injuring military personnel and vandalizing vehicles.
