A legal notice has been sent seeking a prohibition on holding meetings, rallies, or processions on the roads on the working days, allowing only on Fridays.

It also sought appropriate actions under existing laws if any organization or political party is causing public suffering by blocking roads and obstructing traffic.

The notice was sent by Khandaker Hasan Shahriar, a lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, on Sunday.

Md Mahbub Hossain, secretary of the Cabinet Division, Md Jahangir Alam, secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bangladesh Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, and, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman were made respondents of the notice.

According to the notice organizations and political parties are prohibited from holding meetings, rallies, or processions, and from using loudspeakers and sound boxes on the roads, except on Fridays, to prevent noise and public disruption.

If necessary actions are not taken within the next seven days, legal measures will be taken, including filing a writ petition in the High Court.

The notice also says that various organizations under different banners have been intimidating the public, using force, blocking roads, reducing vehicle speeds, diverting traffic routes, and creating obstructions during vehicle movement, which ultimately causes severe traffic congestion and public inconvenience. The notice demands an end to these activities.
