Autorickshaw protests: 42 people land in jail

Forty two people, arrested in connection with separate cases filed over vandalism during protests in the capital’s Mirpur area on Sunday, have been sent to jail.

After the hearing on Monday afternoon, three separate Metropolitan Magistrate Courts of Dhaka ordered to send them to jail.

The accused are- Anik, Abu Bakkar, Ali Hossain, Sagar Mridha, Sagar Sheikh, Bakul Hossain, Nurul Islam, Majed Ali, Motahar Hossain, Dulu Mia alias Bulu, Nabi Hossain, Shahabuddin, Nurul Aman, Junayed, Zakir Hossain, Fakrul Islam, Kamal Mia, Al Amin Mia, Supta Roy, Osman Gani, Shakeel Hossain, Abdul Hamid, Azizul Haque, Amir, Shahidul Islam, Zahurul Islam, Russell, Rana Chowdhury, Russell, Zakir Hossain, Mehdi Hasan, Abdul Motaleb, Morsalin Mia , Shahjahan Mia, Rasel, Wajib, Anwar Hossain, Ataur Rahman, Sumon, Noor Mohammad and Sharif.

Among them, the first 15 are accused in a case filed with Mirpur Model police station, the next 12 people are accused in a case filed with Kafrul police station and the remaining 15 are accused in the case of Pallabi police station.

At least four cases have been filed against over 2,500 autorickshaw drivers following a protest in the capital’s Mirpur area on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP Mirpur Division Jasim Uddin Molla said that two cases were filed with Pallabi police station, one with Kafrul police station, and one with Mirpur Model police station.

These cases allege obstruction of police work, vandalism, arson, and attacks on police during the daylong protest.
