Md Rafiqul Islam Jinnah alias Mohammad Ali Jinnah has been sent to jail in a case filed over an overnight attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Israt Jahan passed the order on Saturday following a petition by the investigation officer.
SI Lutfor Rahman of the prosecution department confirmed the matter.
Jinnah was arrested around 3:00am on Friday from the Baitul Aman Housing area in Adabor.
He was produced before the court on Saturday by Shah Ali Police Station SI Md Atowar Rahman, the investigation officer in the case. His lawyer Faisal Hossain sought cancellation of the remand prayer and bail.
The court, however, rejected the bail petition and ordered that Jinnah be sent to jail.
A total of 14 people have been arrested in the case so far.
Among them, Shahadat Hossain, Kazi Mokbul Hossain, Shah Alam, Atikur Rahman, Kamrul Islam, Sohel and Shakil were sent to jail on September 26; Milon and Mintu on September 28; Shahidul Islam on September 30; Saiful Islam and Alam on October 1; and Nur Alam on October 2.
According to the case statement, a group of people armed with hammers, sticks and locally made weapons entered the Radda MCH-FP Centre in the Shah Ali Police Station area around midnight on September 25.
The group allegedly climbed over the boundary wall, assaulted and tied up two night guards, Andria Sarker and Md Abdul Hai, before breaking open the main gate with hammers and entering the premises with an excavator.
They allegedly vandalised a semi-permanent structure on the eastern side of the facility, another building used for family planning services, and the rooms of the clinic in-charge, a doctor and the deputy clinic in-charge. Furniture and equipment inside the rooms were also damaged.
The group later allegedly broke the doors and windows of the permanent buildings housing the ultrasound, vaccination and laboratory rooms.
According to the case statement, the attackers took various medicines, two ultrasound machines, a generator, two computers, two printers, three refrigerators, three air conditioners and three steel cabinets from the facility.
They also allegedly threatened the night guards and put up banners and signboards of a cooperative society at the premises.
Dr Nasrin Akhter, executive director of the Radda MCH-FP Centre, filed the case with Shah Ali Police Station on September 26.
The case names Mohammad Hanif Mia as a suspect and accuses 200–250 unidentified people.
