Ex-JaPa MP Kader Khan jailed for 4yrs

A Dhaka court has sentenced Jatiya Party (JaPa) leader and former Gaibandha-1 MP Dr Colonel (Retd) Abdul Kader Khan to four years imprisonment in the case filed over illegal assets.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 announced the verdict on Thursday.

Besides, Kader has been fined Tk61,92,791, Saiful Islam Mithu, bench assistant of the court, confirmed this information.

Kader Khan was brought before the court from jail before the verdict was pronounced. After the verdict, he was taken back to jail.

In February 2017, he was arrested for his involvement in the murder of Manjurul Islam (Liton), the ruling party MP from Gaibandha-1 Constituency.

After this, the ACC started investigating Kader Khan's illegal assets.

ACC Deputy Assistant Director Wahid Manzoor Sohag filed a case at Ramna Police Station on May 26, 2019, alleging concealment of information in asset declaration, acquisition of assets beyond known income.

It is said in the complaint of the case that Abdul Kader Khan hid Tk24,42,770 in the statement of assets submitted to ACC.

On January 10, 2023, the investigating officer of the case filed a charge sheet against ACC Assistant Director Noor Alam in the court.
